Welcome to our exhibition launch!
We held our exhibition opening at The SVP Deaf Centre in June 2023. Our exhibition showcases how UC affects mental health and wellbeing, and covers a range of themes, such as: fear, anxiety, worth, financial hardship and dehumanisation. It calls for more compassion and hope for change in the UK's social security system.
Over 100 people from local voluntary organisations and members of the local community came to immerse themselves in our exhibition launch. Our hosts, the SVP Deaf Centre, put on a feast of home made food and drinks as we welcomed our audience into a supportive space for discussion and reflection. We showed audience members around the room, and talked them through our own individual work and our collective pieces.
What did our audience say?
“I loved hearing directly from people who have lived experience of the UC world. The exhibition was really impactful and emotional, and the experiences will stay with me for a long time."
"Great exhibition. I got a sense of the anxiety, dread and worry brought about by UC. But also so much hope, creativity and a sense of individual lives."
“The heartfelt chronicling of the dehumanizing systems of the DWP are humbling. Very moving.”
“Grateful for the courage of those who shared their stories. Very powerful and insightful into a world that is too sadly hidden.”
“An eye-opening experience that gave me a glimpse into the challenges of others.”
